Learning something new everyday

That is me. I am a vegetarian, and have been since grade seven. Now the question is what made you become a vegetarian. Well hmm, my cousin, who I look up to A LOT was a vegetarian at the time as well. She was always making comments about how bad meat was. This kinda started me thinking about it. But it all really happened one day in grade seven when we had a fish dissection, and it grossed me out so much that I asked my teacher if I could sit out, she let me and I waited outside of the class until it was all over. Well it just so happened that this class was right before lunch, and guess what I had for lunch that day, a tuna fish sandwich. I couldn’t eat it, just the thought of it made my stomach turn. That is when I started cutting meat out of my diet, obviously going from eating meat one day to not at all the next was a tough transition. For the first week I have to admit I ate a few pieces. After that I stopped completely. Then I started really looking into being a vegetarian, read about how they treated animals. It soon got to the point where meat disgusted me.

One thing that I was really lucky about, when I went on my first date with my now boyfriend. We were talking about something, I am not sure what brought up the meat eating topic, but he said “Didn’t you know I was a vegetarian?” I was shocked and surprised, because in my small town there were VERY few vegetarians. So meeting a boy who was vegetarian like me was amazing. I cannot imagine what it would be like to date someone who is not a vegetarian when you are. I am not saying in any way that it is bad or wrong, but I know that I personally would be weirded out by it.

Now for a little rant… heh. I have one thing to say to people that call themselves vegetarian, when really they eat chicken, or fish, or whatever. And no I am not pointing fingers at anyone here, so do not assume this is towards anyone this is just how I feel. But if you eat fish, chicken, beef, whatever. You are definitely not a vegetarian. That is one of my biggest annoyances.

  1. I just tried being a veggie for a week, glad I’m back on the meat now though. I love veggie food, but not to have meat at all, for me, is a bit much
